How to enable dropship in Odoo

This article will guide you on how to use Dropship orders in Odoo.

Definition

Dropship order is a type of order where the seller does not keep the inventory in stock. Instead, upon receiving an order from a customer, the seller forwards the order and shipment details to another supplier or manufacturer who directly ships the goods to the customer. This allows the seller to operate without storing or managing inventory, thus saving on operational and inventory management costs.

In Odoo, upon creating a dropship order, Odoo will automatically generate a purchase order. Upon confirmation of the purchase order, a drop ship stock picking will be created.

Configuration

Enable dropship function

To begin, enable the dropship feature in Odoo.

Go to Inventory –> Configuration –> Settings –> Enable Dropshipping and Save

Enable dropship route on product

After saving, Odoo will create a route named ‘Dropship’ within the product. Next, you need to enable this route for the products on which you want to implement dropshipping.
Select a product –> Inventory tab

Next, Under the purchase tab, you need to provide at least one vendor’s information for the products on which you want to implement dropshipping.

Odoo cannot create a purchase order after confirming a sale order if a dropship product does not have any vendor information.

How to use

Now you can utilize the dropship feature in Odoo.

Create a quotation

Create a sale order and select a dropship product.

‘[FURN_6666] Acoustic Bloc Screens’ is a dropship product.
After this quotation is confirmed, Odoo will not create a stock picking but will generate a purchase order instead and link to this order.

Odoo will create a purchase order and link to sale order.

Check and Confirm Purchase Order.

Now you can go to purchase order which Odoo created automatically.

Odoo will automatically input the vendor you have added for the dropship product.
The sale order is also linked to the purchase order.
The purchase order is in RFQ (Request for Quotation) status, allowing you to either send it to the vendor or confirm it.
After the purchase order is confirmed, Odoo will generate a stock picking for the dropship order. This stock picking will be linked simultaneously to the sale order and the purchase order.

Dropship picking is created and link to purchase order.

Validate dropship picking.

Now you can go to dropship picking to validate.

View and validate dropship picking.
Once the vendor confirms with you that they have delivered the goods to your customer, you can validate this dropship picking to complete the sale order dropship
